About Milestones Advice and Support Service
Milestones does not simply offer an Assessment service. We also offer Advice and Support. The  main function of this Service is to assist those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or related disorders and their families and carers to cope with the difficulties that arise from day to day.

Although our Advice and Support often follows on from an assessment, it is available regardless of whether any assessment or diagnosis has been carried out.
If you are having any difficulties coping with ASD or another disorder the Advice and Support Services are designed to help you.

How The Advice and Support Service Works
Milestones has a range of means whereby you can ask for advice or support or ask questions. They are as follows:

Open-to-all E-mail Service
Do you have worries concerning whether you or your child may be on the Autism Spectrum or be suffering from another behavioural, psychological or developmental disorder?
Or are you
experiencing difficulties for yourself, or as a parent, carer or family in simply coping with everyday life when there is a behavioural issue involved?
you can e-mail Milestones for advice and/or support. We would not be able to give you any firm confirmation in this regard but we are willing to enter into a dialogue via e-mail by which we are able to give advice, act as a 'sounding board' or suggest where you may seek practical help.
Go to our Contact Us Page to get in touch with us.

Post-Assessment Advice and Support
You may already have had a positive Assessment for ASD and/or another disorder from Milestones or from another organisation, but you may very well need some sympathetic help and support, especially in the time after assessment. Then feel free to e-mail us for advice, support, to ask questions, or (and we really encourage this) to keep us up-to-date on how you are getting on.
Go to our Contact Us Page to get in touch with us.

Milestones never charges for either receiving or sending e-mails of any kind.
(Although a small donation towards costs if the correspondence is particularly lengthy is always welcome!)

Advice and Support Visits
Sometimes there may arise situations where e-mails are not enough and one-to-one session is required.
Milestones will arrange a visit to you and your family at a mutually convenient time. During the visit we will discuss the problems you are facing and look to find practical strategies and solutions that fit in with your circumstances. There will be no 'off the shelf' solutions or panaceas offered and no verbal prescriptions. Instead, we will work together to find how to make your life easier based upon the individual difficulties faced by the person in question, the challenges that these bring to
your way of life, the carers and family members (if applicable) or the personalities involved. We will be looking for things that you are able to carry forward and continue with in order to bring an ongoing improvement in your quality of life.
Hopefully, a single visit will be sufficient but further visits can be arranged If you feel the need. Be assured that Milestones will not look to make any more visits than are strictly necessary.
The length of an Advice and Support visit is variable depending on need (normally around two hours) but is charged at a flat rate, not per hour. If you request regular sessions then we will make special
financial arrangements so that your need for support does not impose an unsupportable financial burden upon you.
Please see the Fees and Payment Page

We regret that if you do not already have a positive assessment or diagnosis for a developmental or behavioural disorder, we are unable to give any opinion on whatever disorder or otherwise may be causing the difficulty. This can only be determined by a proper, expert assessment. Milestones, of course, specialises in these.
You can find out more information by clicking on our Professional Assessments Page.

School or College Meetings
It is very common in cases where a young person is found to have ASD for there to be a dialogue with their school or college with regard to accommodating the educational and pastoral needs of a student with ASD. Milestones is very willing to be involved in this dialogue if necessary. We have in the past assisted in a number of ways:  attended special meetings where we explained what those needs may be and discussed with the relevant staff how they may be able to fulfill them; engaged in e-mail conversations with the school or college; helped parents and carers to compose letters to the institution and even written letters either on their behalf or in a professional capacity.
Attendance at meetings we regard as an Advice and Support visit and they are charged accordingly.
Please see the Fees and Payment Page

Professional and Advisory Letters.
Occasionally, there is a need for a letter from a professional source for such institutions as schools, employers or even the Courts to advise or explain about the impact that Autism or other disorder will be having on that person and, if required, contain strategies and advice that can be followed. Milestones can provide such a letter. We do have to make a charge for such letters.
Please see the Fees and Payments Page.

Milestones is also able to carry out a limited amount of counselling and therapy. However, this must be discussed with us and we will arrange a special visit (with no charge) for this purpose.
