|About Milestones Advice and Support Service
Milestones does not simply offer an Assessment service. We also offer Advice and Support. The main function of this Service is to assist those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or related disorders and their families and carers to cope with the difficulties that arise from day to day.
Although our Advice and Support often follows on from an assessment, it is available regardless of whether any assessment or diagnosis has been carried out. If you are having any difficulties coping with ASD or another disorder the Advice and Support Services are designed to help you.
How The Advice and Support Service Works
You may have had a positive Assessment for ASD and/or another disorder from Milestones or from another organisation. but nevertheless there may be some other difficulties that have arisen over which you need some help. Alternatively, you may not have felt the need for an assessment but are experiencing difficulties for yourself, or as a parent, carer or family in simply coping with everyday life when there is a behavioural issue involved.
Milestones will arrange to visit to you and your family at a mutually convenient time. During the visit we will discuss the problems you are facing and look to find practical strategies and solutions that fit in with your circumstances. There will be no 'off the shelf' solutions or panaceas offered and no verbal prescriptions. Instead, we will work together to find how to make your life easier based upon the individual difficulties faced by the person in question, the challenges that these bring to the carers and family members, the personalities involved and the way of life of your household. We will be looking for things that you are able to carry forward and continue with in order to bring an ongoing improvement in your quality of life.
Hopefully, a single visit will be sufficient but further visits can be arranged. Be assured that Milestones will not look to make any more visits than are strictly necessary.
The length of an Advice and Support visit is variable depending on need (normally around two hours) but is charged at a flat rate.

We regret that if you do not already have a positive assessment or diagnosis for a developmental or behavioural disorder, we are unable to give any opinion as part of the visit on whatever disorder or otherwise may be causing the difficulty. This can only be determined by a proper, expert assessment. Milestones, of course, specialises in these and you can find out more information by clicking HERE
School or College. It is very common in cases where a young person is found to have ASD for there to be a dialogue with their school or college with regard to accommodating the educational and pastoral needs of a student with ASD. Milestones is very willing to be involved in this dialogue if necessary. We have in the past assisted in a number of ways: attended special meetings where we explained what those needs may be and discussed with the relevant staff how they may be able to fulfill them; engaged in e-mail conversations with the school or college; helped parents and carers to compose letters to the institution and even written letters either on their behalf or in a professional capacity.
Attendance at meetings we regard as an Advice and Support visit and they are charged accordingly.

Once you have had an Assessment or an Advice and Support visit you may e-mail Milestones at any time if you need any further advice or information.
If the assistance required is more complex than can be resolved by e-mail correspondence then we will look to arrange an Advice and Support Visit.
There is no charge for e-mails.
Milestones is also able to carry out a limited amount of counselling and therapy. However, this must be discussed with us and we will arrange a special visit (with no charge) for this purpose.
